my paris character
i was going through my photo archives this morning and came across a folder or two of paris. my morning was over and done right then and there.
paris is special to me because i travelled there with my sister about a year and a half ago. we had a magical time.
when it comes to travel i tend to find it difficult to relay what it was about a city or place. oh, i can sigh whistfully, but that’s about it. like important milestones, travel seems to make me look inward for a good while after i return home. i’d make a horrid travel writer for sure.
this photo sparked a little giggle though. and i wanted to share it and the story behind it.
we stayed in montmartre and a few doors down was this little hole-in-the-wall crêperie.
we always wanted to stop by on our way back of an evening and get a hot crêpe to have back in our room, but the owner was always on the phone. sometimes he would have a friend standing in the little space with him and still be on the phone.
after three futile attempts we wished he was on the phone once more because it would make us giggle into the night. sure, we’d be without a sugary crêpe, but often we’d have a treat tucked in our bags anyway.
on our last night in paris we tried again and the owner did not fail us. and so i had to remember him this way and hope that those telephone conversations are still going strong, because they sure seemed important!
a few more memories of paris:
we stopped for cafe au lait and baked goods many, many times.
we bought two boxes of these to share together and take back on the train to london.
we don’t usually take tourist photos such as this. but the gingko tree at the sacre cœur was for standing under.
the everyday buildings and signs were just as lovely as the baked goods.

glorious weekend breakfasts
ah. two more sleeps for a weekend breakfast. this weekend we’ll have the luck of a weekend breakfast in the countryside.
this morning scene was from our homely weekend just passed: french toast with organic bacon and a generous drizzle of maple syrup. all good things.
pieces of art
i came across some polaroids i took at the small photo shoot i did a few months back at a designer’s studio.
i quite like the stillness and cool in this shot. it helps that these gowns are like works of art.
