polaroid day 1: in my kitchen

Posted in at home, photography by deborah on April 21st, 2008

thank you for all your comments. it is refreshing to see that there are fellow dreamers out there.  i really enjoyed reading about the things you are thinking about and maybe even daring to try. this morning when i read this post over at the kitchn, i kind of wanted to start hunting the business sales guide. but for now, i will continue to dream and plot away. these things take time, i guess.

and so.

another week, another polaroid. oh, it’s been something close to polaroid month over here. our wooden chest come coffee table is covered with polaroids. lj sorts them into piles: his favourite, good ones, hopeless ones. it’s rather fun to see, as the combination seems to change each time he sifts through them. he calls them the grown up’s baseball card. heh.

i’ve decided that this week of polaroid will be dedicated to the kitchen: favourite items, ingredients, kitchens i visit and such happenings. i chose this theme so that i can work in the light of my kitchen {it’s a challenge and i need to extend myself i think} and also because we will be away from home for some of the time {some new kitchens to explore}.

and so, here we go: in my kitchen.

in my kitchen

a daily scene of our water glasses and the pyrex measuring jug on the bench. it was early morning when this was shot, and i was surprised it actually worked, even if it’s over exposed.

can i just dedicate my love for that pyrex jug for a minute. i have completely abused this honourable kitchen item by leaving it on a hot stove, dropping it too many times to recall and even putting it in the bin by accident. and yet, it scrubs up new each time and is the first thing i reach for when i cook and bake. it’s a good little thing, i should take care of it more.

______________

are you joining in polaroid week? if so, leave me a link and i shall follow.

don’t forget to check out mathias over at everyday polaroid. expect good things from the guy.

kitchen storage

i had to do a major spring clean of the kitchen the other day when i found a family of moths playing hide and seek amongst the dry goods. oh, they are a bunch of hopeless house guests.

in a way it gave me the opportunity to clear out all the pantry items i had been hoarding; squid ink pasta from fratelli fresh; summer 2006, chocolate splurge; winter 2007. i’m afraid the squid ink pasta didn’t make it, but the green and blacks was turned into dark chocolate and cherry brownies.

above is some dream kitchen photographs from livingetc {via emma}. right now i love the beauty of white beside wood grain.

my paper wreath

Posted in at home by deborah on December 24th, 2007

last year i used a coat hanger and some faux christmas berries for a wreath and this year some white and silver tissue paper, ribbon and an acorn i picked up last week during my morning walk. the shape is inspired by these luminarias. just quietly, they are a lota fun to make. it’s big, it’s muted and i kinda like it.

wishing you a happy christmas!

christmas for six

1. Untitled, 2. my tree..,

3. evening, 4. Untitled,

5. snowballs, 6. soft trees shadows

today i’ll be rolling up my sleeves and attempting to make some jam for gifting. wish me luck!

one more thing:

weekend baking

i forgot to introduce to you my new friend in the kitchen. lj named him fury, because he thinks new electrical items brings out the craziness in me. after mulling over the choice of colour, i picked a white one. the decision was made {even though i didn’t know it} once i saw a pristine commercial model in action during a a visit to my sister’s kitchen in the middle of the final dessert service. seeing cream turn into light lashings just about set my heart beating.

so far, this little beast has whipped up a batch of cakes, some cream {for lemonade scones} and soon some egg whites for a christmas pavlova.
