and now, the final installment of treats for a while. the imperial; with a layer of so many good things: hazelnut, lemon cream (maybe even lemon curd), a berry jelly glaze, crunchy hazelnuts. i cannot recall the exact names of the layers; but it include dacquoise . i wish there were descriptions available on the adriano zumbo website. i can never remember to read the place cards with all those beautiful baked goods under the glass counter taunting me so.

after lunch and before afternoon tea i cut myself a sliver for a sample. i swooned and watched the clock waiting for my mother to arrive. i planned on sharing it with her and was also preparing myself for her complaints. “i shouldn’t be eating sweets!” you shouldn’t be eating sweets!” “why do you buy these things?” “i’ll only have tea, no sugar!” a barrage; pow pow pow.

and as i suspected; when presented with her share alongside a cup of black tea there was a little sigh; giving in to the beauty, followed by a little clink of the fork and then silence until the plate was scraped clean. “did you buy only one?“

and so, even a hacking cough will not stop me from enjoying a lavender macaron for breakfast. believe me, it is a really good way to start the day {sans the cough syrup}. it all its almond and purple goodness; this is my second favourite behind the mandarin. the chocolate will always be a classic. once again eaten quickly by the boy.

i’ve said it once, but i’ll say it again. these creations by adriano zumbo are genius. we shared the chocolate mousse trio three ways for morning tea, which i regretted immediately. not that i don’t like to share, but clearly this cup of bliss needs to be a solo experience; on the couch while reading your favourite book with only the sound of schlur-p from your spoon lifting out the three layers of light chocolate mousse {white, milk and dark with a thin layer of cakey crumb}. there will be a next time.

this swallow brooch makes me so happy. even happier knowing that my sister in london will soon have one too; carefully gift wrapped by the good people at elk accessories.
