two weeks

Posted in notices by deborah on July 22nd, 2007

hi

and so, there was good chocolate as well as chocolate cake with strawberries and dragees for mum. a week away from the internet and i needed another week still. this time around it wasn’t cold turkey, i’ve had my evenings away from the internet, allowing only 30 minutes a day. what is it about internet which makes time vanish?

winter break

winter break

i’ll be away from the internet for the week or so; another detox of sorts while things get busy around me. what i want to do {in no partucular order} instead::

  • take photographs on film
  • cook; stews abd soups
  • go on neighbourhood walks
  • read
  • research and plan for holidays later this year
  • finish painting the dining chairs
  • celebrate my mother’s birthday
  • eat good chocolate
  • recover from late night wimbeldon matches {ie go to sleep early!}

sara of happysilly shares her top 3 of the day. mine are::

  • sleeping in until 11am
  • my new egg cutter
  • leftovers for lunch

have a good week ahead!

perfect

pretty white cherries while they’re around. not exactly eating local, but i gave in with half a handful at the fruit shop. don’t shoot me carbon cops. looking forward to our cherry season later this year.

squished honey + raspberry cake

the plan for pie was thwarted when i realised that i didn’t have enough apples for the filling. instead i doubled the honey madeleine recipe to fit a rectangular tart pan - a sweet base for double cream and tart raspberries. the raspberries were lined up like this tart} while they were frozen so that by the time the garlic and corainder pippies were eaten, and by the time the pasta and fish stew was devoured the raspberries were shiny lush. so lovely with a shot of espresso.

also perfect the next day with a cuppa.

pie to come

stems + shells

any minute now i will be heading into the kitchen to make a pie-crumbly-thingo i’ve been dreaming about for weeks. we have a bag of apples and freshly ground cinnamon - it’s gotta be done. the reason for baking is to take dessert to a dinner later tonight where pippies and portuguese fish stew are on the menu.

friday night dinner

dinner

if you time it just right of an evening; you can walk down to broadway where you can buy two flaky pies for the price of one from bourke street bakery. on the menu; meat pies {with carrots and peas} chicken pies {with sweet potato and lime} and vegetable pies {spinach and feta}. and if it has been a slow day at the bakery; the counter staff will slip a crusty baguette into your swag for nothing.

it’s a good way to end the day, especially if you venture into the depth of the broadway mall to grab salad provisions and a tangy japanese dressing to go well with the bean sprouts. a good friday night dinner; when sustenance also needed to feel good.
