weekends bits

quick, before it’s over!
weekend bits:: an early start to the weekend on friday, with a strepsil throat and a lemsip nose to keep me under the covers until midday sporadic attempts at breakfast and reading things on the internet only made it worse, but it gave me a chance to try this remedy:
half of one onion soaked in honey overnight. the honey breaks down the onion, leaving you with a sticky syrup which can be bottled up and refrigerated for later. when later arrives with the sniffles and a cough, you can add one tablespoon of the syrup to some hot water or tea and allow to steep for a few minutes. sip slowly and it will make things feel better.
saturday:: sunny, shopping and hanging out at the local library. it has become a bit of a habit now each weekend and armed with your suggestions i came away with one, plus a few cookbooks for weekday cooking inspiration. later on we had pop-in visitors who came with a bag of chicken {guests who come over and then cook are a-plus} and rocky road ice-cream {of which i could have zilch, due to the dairy free fooding}. the guests also included a very curious 1 year old, who happened to break my set of turkish tea cups within 5 minutes of arrival, and pushed many grains of rice into the carpet at dinner time. still we love her.

sunday:: reading extremely loud and incredibly close is pulling at the travel heart strings. not that i want to live in new york, ever. i’d just like to visit some time again and have that familiar feeling again. it was so familiar the first time. i’m really enjoying the book and kinda want to give oskar a hug. a sunday roast is just as good as a warm hug. this time the stuffing was full of healing: barley, lemon and garlic plus pepitas for crunch. really yummy roasted with potatoes and fennel.
