pancake remains

yesterday i had consumed 5 pancakes {three mini ones at my work pancake breakfast} and two for dessert at home. i love pancakes, but i’m ready to take it slow for a while.
p.s. forget maple syrup, pancakes with kithul honey is delicious. i remembered to buy myself a tall bottle of it last time i visited the sri lankan spice store. its dark and thick, and very nice on anything bread like.
breaking fast at ikea

it’s no secret that i have a fondness for a certain swede as well as breakfast. it was to my joy that ikea started offering breakfast, or at least i noticed only recently. this very reason made it easy to persuade lj into the plan for a little something to eat followed by a little shopping {some furniture for the 9-5 gig}. i’ve read about the 99c breakfasts in north america, but you never get anything like that here in australia, so i was even more surprised when a hot breakie was priced at a whopping $2. considering the price, what you get {scrambled eggs, two hash browns, a rasher of bacon, a sausage and a blanched tomato} was decent and pretty filling. there are extras too; baked beans {60c} and bread rolls {50c}. a great way to get shoppers into the store to spend much money on malm furniture no doubt. i quite like the prospect of breakfast at ikea in singapore too.
diner love

i remember walking into a johnny rockets while on my way to nyu. it was raining outside so i thought i’d grab a drink and wait for the rain to seize. i didn’t know much about the franchise, but i was immediately in love with the place. sure it’s just a glorified diner experience, but it was fun and reminded me of those american sitcoms {happy days!} which my sister and i watched when we were little kiddies. and the patty melt {cheese, onion and rye bread} made the dampness of those few minutes i was caught in the rain disappear.

yesterday i headed down to central station after work. i hadn’t been in a long while, and i wanted to check out the basement full of books. always a treasure trove of books and nick nacks. i found the book of my dreams {ok, i have many}. full of colour and black and white photographs of diners, diner scenes and diner tablescapes. it’s a nice alternative to ummm, cafe culture and resorting to wearing bobby socks and twirly skirts at a 50’s party.
more diner love
smile while you wait

nothing much to write about at the moment {i am exhausted}. some things which made me smile while waiting for my coffee to cool this afternoon:
new prints by simply photo
another delicious soup from lobstersquad
when i grow up, i want a house with white floors. white floor love at shelterrific
pretty packages for lunch at the kitchen
v day for the family at soulemama
tomorrow: some diner love from a $1 dollar book find {i love that basement full of books at central train station}
icing, waffles + diners

today is the day for love. in my humble opinion i like a day dedicated to a little extra love. it means someone else gets to think about dinner {thai takeaway} instead of me. it also means that someone else is clever and found a missing thrift store find and surprises you with those items {along with baked goods with pink icing on top}
other good things are lovely waffles and a lovely room. {i need to start making waffles more often. cakey toasty waffles with honeycomb and plump fruit}
if i were in the right country i’d visit those cutesy diners {for waffles}. of course i’d have a favourite, but there would also be my regular. meanwhile i love these items, remincent of the bygone days.
