soft cup cover
for years my grandmother used hankerchiefs and other odds and ends to make jug covers for use around the house. these were probably very useful back in sri lanka when water was boiled and left for drinking in big jugs. i have love the different patterns and colour combinations she comes up. watching her whip up these covers in seconds using her crochet hook, some thread and random plastic beads is a memory i’ll always hold close. this my attempt sans the crochet hook, but instead some material i picked up on a recent trip to bathurst, lace scraps and beads from a bead store in singapore.

the first batch of cookies for holiday baking were dead simple: golden syrup cookies. much like honey snaps, the golden syrup makes it taste a little more… richer. the cranberries were an afterthought. i think i’ll add more to the batch i bake tomorrow morning.
shelling for baking

the grocery stores are hopeless cases for pistachios. when i have the time i go to my favourite nut shop in campsie, but as usual harris farm came up trumps this evening when other’s shelves were sans the green gems. tonight i made pistachio and lemon icebox cookies for gift giving. i adapted a recent gourmet recipe for pistachio cranberry cookies and will use the dried cranberries for something else. perhaps cranberry gingerbread.
